I made all of Sadie's baby food. I would boil large quantities of the same veg or fruit, then puree them in a food processor (with a tiny amount of purified water) and then pour them into ice cube trays, freeze them, then pop the frozen food out and store them in a freezer bag. I did this with meals too - like pasta dishes and rice dishes. For meals I got a baby cookbook from my neighbor...they sell them at bookstores. The one I had was from England and it was done in a way that introduced them "properly" to foods...
It's a lot of up front work but the meals last forever and it's just as easy as using packaged baby food but the benefits of making your own is so much better.
Let me know if I can help you anymore...I really educated myself in this area.

I am such a slacker, so I never did it. But I did read a lot about it. It seems super easy. Pretty much just soften the food by cooking it, puree in a food processor (you might have to add some water to some to get the right consistency), and then freeze it in ice cube trays. Let me know how it goes! I'll have to get on the ball and try it with baby #2.

It is super easy, that's for sure. I did it for Benson, but I'm not so sure if it was worth the effort for me... so baby #2 may not get the same treatment. :)

Just so you know, baking is the preferred method because it retains the most nutrients. You'll bake things like sweet potatoes, apples, pears, etc. There are only 1-2 things that you don't have to bake, and there are only a couple things that you add the tiniest drop of lemon juice to. And you'll want to add water to get the right consistency AFTER you've frozen them in the ice cube trays... so just before giving them to your little bay-bay. :)**FYI, I recommend one of those $20 handheld food processors. Mine is a Braun and comes with a great processing blade and a nice, tall cup for pureeing baby foods. Loved it. Use it all the time.

Hope that helps! I don't remember a whole lot about it, but it's pretty easy if you take the time for it.

Hello!! I said I wanted to make loads of food so I could watch it go rotten while I wait for my kid to be old enough to eat. What dont you get about that. lol

I am a friend of Melanie's and I have been reading the Super Baby Food book. She has some good ideas for making your own baby food, she also has some pretty crazy ideas but you might enjoy reading it and using her some-what-normal ideas. I hope you don't mind me stalking you!

I made all of Preston's baby food- Super easy and super cheap. I never bought a "baby food cookbook" or any of that hi-tech stuff, I just asked my pediatrician what to do. She told me to just peel and boil whatever fruits/veggies I wanted to make, and put them in a blender (with a little bit of water if they needed thinned at all) and freeze them in ice cube trays. Then pop them out and save them in plastic baggies (date and label the bag). I honestly took one day where I went to the store and bought all the fruits/veggies I wanted, spent an afternoon nap time preparing, pureeing and freezing and had food for like the next 3 months! It was great, inexpensive, and then I knew EXACTLY what Preston was getting to eat. As he got older and needed meats and stuff, I would just puree a little bit of what I would make us for dinner in my magic bullet (which I love way more than the blender!) and give it to him. Really, I don't think it is as technical and difficult as some of those baby recipe books make it seem... but that's just my opinion. It's easy enough that I will DEFINITELY do it for Porter also.
